FAQs

Paint & Ordering FAQs

Start with your factory paint code, then choose the format that suits your repair. Open the paint finder or ask our team for help.

Finding the right colour

How do I find my paint code?

Use the How to find my paint code tab in our paint finder and select your vehicle make. Check the code printed on your vehicle's paint label before ordering. Label locations can vary by model and year.

Can I choose using the colour sample alone?

No. Online colour samples are visual guides. Screens, lighting, metallic and pearl effects can change how a colour appears. Use the factory paint code to identify your colour. Tiles marked Placeholder do not have a matched sample.

Is an exact match guaranteed?

No. Factory variations, previous repairs, fading and application can affect the result. Our paint is mixed using the selected factory code for a blendable match. Test the colour before applying it to your vehicle, and blend into adjacent areas where appropriate.

My code appears with other codes. Is that normal?

A colour may have more than one manufacturer code or name. Check that your exact code appears in the result and that the vehicle details are appropriate. Contact us if the label or result is unclear.

What if my vehicle or colour is missing?

Try the Search by paint code tab using the code on your vehicle. If you still cannot find it, contact us with the year, make, model and a clear photo of the paint label. Do not order a similar-looking colour as a substitute.

Choosing paint and layers

Which format should I choose?

Pens and bottles suit small chips and scratches. Aerosol cans suit larger repair areas. Ready-to-spray paint is for suitable spray equipment. Use the Paint repair quiz for a starting point, then read the selected product description and size or kit contents before ordering.

What is a tri-stage colour?

A tri-stage finish uses Layer 1 groundcoat and Layer 2 midcoat, followed by clearcoat. When a selected colour is identified as tri-stage, the finder lets you order Layer 1, Layer 2 or both. The layers are separately priced. Choosing both adds one item for each layer at the quantity selected. Clearcoat is separate unless the selected kit explicitly includes it.

Do I need clearcoat?

Basecoat formats require clearcoat. Single-stage glossy formats are designed to dry glossy without a separate clearcoat. Check the chosen format's description; a clearcoat is included only when the selected kit says it is.

What comes in a kit?

Contents depend on the format and size selected. Read the product description displayed beneath the format selector. Do not assume a photo of one component represents the complete kit. Contact us if you need confirmation.

Will the cart show my chosen paint code?

The finder attaches the selected code and colour information to your paint items. Review those details, the format, size, quantity and any tri-stage layer selections in the cart before checkout.

Application

Do I need primer?

Primer depends on the substrate and repair. Bare metal, plastic and existing coatings may require different preparation and compatible primers. Follow the instructions for the products and surface you are using, or ask us before choosing.

How long should I wait between coats?

Follow the selected product's instructions and technical data sheet. Flash-off, drying, recoating and curing times vary with the coating system, temperature, humidity and application. A single timing rule does not apply to every format.
